Figure 1: STMC Gateway user interface

Introducing STMCGateway:

Safe Telematics Monitoring and Control Gateway™, (STMC Gateway) is the achievement of Telematics deployment that is:

  1. Safe, HANDS-ON-WHEEL Interface™, (HOWI)™ (Hands Free)
  2. Scalable
  3. Assures driver Intent/High Availability, (100%)
  4. Portable
  5. Simple/Accessible/Universal
  6. Cost Effective
  7. Security Enabled

THE CONCERN:

Driver Distraction and driver work load are a safety concern. They can be attributed to many factors, but to the Auto & Telecom industry, and the society in general, distraction caused by Telematics is an unacceptable concern for several reasons:

1.       Death and Injuries to consumers and subsequent social and economical losses

2.       Liability to manufacturers of Telematics and OEM that deploys them

3.       limitation on industry growth caused from fear of the above

The Solution:

The solution to Telematics caused Driver Distraction and driver work load varied from one country to another.  In some countries, provinces and cities may have implemented conflicting laws to resolve the concern that ranged from banning the use altogether, to requiring labels and warnings on such devices.

What did we do about it?

We studied the driving experience in light of Telematics for 8 years, and we concluded that DrivingSystem is a system that consists of:

  1. History
  2. Assessment
  3. Regulation
  4. Man
  5. Machine
  6. Environment

Based on above

We concluded that what we are seeking is not a ban on Telematics, or a regulation on the individual applications or features.  What is needed is a technical solution and a common sense Telematics deployment process that is supported by regulation to the entire driving system.

We turned to KnowledgeWare and Computer technologies to solve this problem by addressing the obvious:

  1. Implementing Order

One Telematics activity at a time

  1. Eliminating Chaos

No surprises,

No guessing,

No failed attempts

  1. Help & manage work load

Intelligent help automatically customizable to driver habits and skills

How is this ACHIEVED?

-- We created a T-Assessment process that relies on          KnowledgeWare, (Assessment, History, and Regulation) to evaluate:

  1. Telematics Equipment
  2. Telematics Applications
  3. Permissible activities & threshold

-- We developed a user interface that is:

  1. 100% AVAILABLE
  2. Ergonomically correct for driving safely
  3. SIMPLE & INTUITIVE TO USE

See Figure 1: STMCGateway user interface

-- We Implemented the KnowledgeWare into Software / Hardware / Protocol.  This is what we call STMCGateway.
