Real Driver & Cell phones in Real Life Distraction

These photos were ripped from our built-in video camera or taken by a co-pilot.  Some of them demonstrate people doing things that are outrages, e.g.

  1. Drivers holding cigarette with one hand, talking on the cell phone with the other and performing what we term as Hands Free Steering while driving.

  2. Other drivers are holding the phone by squeezing it between their head and shoulder.

  3. Drivers  are doing what seems to be innocent activity such as holding the phones, but that's putting them at dangerous situation (See Hand Held vs. Hands Free) because of their posture

  4. This one takes the prize.  On I-96, Metro Detroit, This young lady was going faster then the speed limit while driving with her feet while comfortably squatting on the driver seat.  Of course, her hands were busy with her Palm TreoTMTM and another electronic device (Possibly a digital camera).  Click on the picture to see it in full size

Others featured here are Franziska Ruprecht doing a demonstration in Cobo Hall - Detroit, during SAE 2003 and  Mouhamad Naboulsi, the president-Inventor, doing a demo at Cobo Hall, Detroit during Convergence 2004
